International Puppet-theatre Festival

The International Puppet-theatre Festival was created in 1977 and was called “International Preview of the Puppet Miniature – Plovdiv”. In 1990, after an interval of four years, the festival had been resumed under the name “Three Are Too Many, Two - Not Enough”. Since 2012 the festival became a biennale and a new unit, “TheatAir”, for open-air shows, concerts and performance, had been added.

Statute of the Festival

The Festival is organized by the non-profit organization International Puppet-Theatre Festival “Three Are Too Many, Two - Not Enough” and State Puppet Theatre - Plovdiv. It is carried out with the support and under the patronage of the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Plovdiv.

Awards

The Awards, three bronze statues “Three Are Too Many, Two – Not Enough” by the sculptor Vassil Margaritov and a cash sum (total 3000 BGN), for the performances in the competitive program of the festival, are granted in the following exemplary categories, which the jury has the right to change and modify.

Festival 2024

The International Street Arts festival TheatAir presents world renowned artists for the first time in the neighborhoods of Plovdiv, as well as an interesting off-program.

Festival 2023

Fifteen Bulgarian troupes and guests from eight countries took part in the jubilee, 25th edition of the festival. The festival took place from September 1st to 6th, and for the first time it included locations outside the city of Plovdiv.
